130mm, 143mm, or 155mm saddle?
« on: June 06, 2007, 11:39:27 AM »

I recently bought a Specialized Avatar Gel 130mm saddle.  I got the smallest because of its weight.  I previously had a 143 mm.  Going to a smaller saddle I found out that my rear end can only take about 30 off road miles before I have to keep standing to relax and get circulation going again.  I have played with forward/backward up/down position changes already and think I found the position I like.

I tested Garry's 155mm saddle (or was it the 143mm). Same brand as mind.  It seemed to fit me better.  But it was only a quick hop on his bike on the parking lot.

Does anyone know which bike shops have the proper fitting/measuring tool use to measure ones proper fit to saddle?  It is eomthing that AJ's didn't do with the two fittings I had done.  Maybe because I didn't ask them.  But I have never seem them use any kind of measuring.  I am sure they don't grab you and measure you right on it.  There is some kind of seat you seat on and leave an imprint of your rear end and they measure that.

If anyone knows which bike shop does this, let me know please.  Or a do it yourself method will work as well... Thanks.   ;D ;D

i switched to the 130mm alias

it is a bit less comfortable than the wider seat but i can get off the back of my bike easier when going down hill

you are on/off the saddle way more on a mtb than a road bike i would think.  so it is not really an issue.

i havent heard of an actual butt measuring device but if there is one, it wouldnt surprise me.

i would say borrow some friends saddles that are different shapes and sizes and just go do a long ride with them to see might be the only way to really know.

when you are paying for a $100 carbon titanium saddle, you want to make sure it fits first.

It seems to me, that in a previous conversion on the forum, Kevan had described the process of measuring your sit bones and stated that he had it done.

I know they have a foam pad type of thing for measureing your sitbones, but I'm not aware of anyone local that has one. That said I haven't been to any of the LBS's in the Tampa/Brandon area either.
